Israel Confirms Airstrike Killing Senior Iranian Official Ali Larijani
Israel confirmed that Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed in a precise airstrike on Monday night. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and the Israeli military stated the operation targeted Larijani as a key figure, carried out by the air force using intelligence from military intelligence and Mossad.
The strikes were coordinated across Tehran, Shiraz and Tabriz, though initial reports did not specify Larijani as a target.
Iranian authorities have issued no official response. Domestic media circulated a handwritten note attributed to Larijani suggesting he is alive.
Larijani, 67, had a long career including roles as parliament speaker, nuclear negotiator and senior security adviser closely aligned with Iran’s leadership. He had deep ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was involved in internal security and strategic decision-making.
Israeli media reported the strikes also targeted Basij chief Gholamreza Soleimani and other senior commanders, with the full extent of the operation unclear. Analysts described Larijani’s killing, if confirmed, as one of the most significant blows to Iran’s leadership in recent years.
The United States had previously announced rewards of up to $10 million for information on senior Iranian military and intelligence figures, including Larijani.
