Gulbahar Residential and Commercial Township Project Approved in Principle
The Afghan government has approved in principle a plan to develop the Gulbahar residential and commercial township, according to an announcement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs. The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
Under the approved framework, a specialized technical committee will be established to conduct comprehensive feasibility, technical, and environmental assessments for the proposed development. The committee, operating under the oversight of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, is tasked with completing its evaluations and submitting a detailed report within a three-month timeframe.
The proposed township will span approximately 11,000 jeribs of land. According to official statements, the private sector has already expressed strong interest in investing roughly $8 billion into the initiative. Once completed, the project is designed to provide residential accommodations for tens of thousands of families while creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities in the surrounding area.
The approval marks a significant step toward expanding urban infrastructure and stimulating economic growth through large-scale private sector participation. Government officials noted that the forthcoming technical review will ensure all planning and environmental standards are met prior to the commencement of any construction activities.
